As a member of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, Chuck Lavine is dedicated to making higher education more affordable. Chuck supported legislation limiting tuition increases to no more than $300 per year at State University of New York colleges (A08519). This was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2011. Chuck also supports the expansion of the tuition assistance program. By controlling cost and increasing financial aid, college will be more affordable for all.

To send our state's young people to college and prepare them for the workplace, Chuck is committed to increasing high school graduation rates. Education is not only important for the economy; it also plays a key role in civic engagement. Due to the vital role education plays in our communities, Chuck supports increased education funding and will continue to do so for the future of New York State.

Chuck also supports universal prekindergarten programs for the children of New York. To ensure families in his district have quality public schools for their children, pre-k or otherwise, Chuck has delivered additional funding from the state to several of its school districts throughout his tenure in the Assembly. Chuck works continually to promote equitable school funding to provide everyone with a fair starting point.
